Carlo de Jesus

Carlo de Jesus, Teacher

Carlo de Jesus is originally from the Philippines and has been dancing nearly his entire life. He is the current reigning USA Dance National Latin Vice Champion. His interest in dancing started out in hip hop at the young age of 5 and he continued to explore many dance styles throughout his youth. After moving to the Washington, D.C., area nearly 30 years ago, Carlo answered an ad in the newspaper for a local studio that was recruiting trainees to become instructors. He quickly discovered his passion and talent for ballroom, and it wasn't long before he was on the competition floor.

His love of music and desire to explore other dance forms led him to leave the ballroom world temporarily and immerse himself in other dance styles such as West Coast Swing and Hustle. Although he is now a renowned West Coast Swing and Hustle dancer, his passion for ballroom remains. He recently returned to his true love, International Latin, which he performs and dances competitively.

With this varied experience and love of music, Carlo brings a unique perspective and feel to ballroom. His dancing is rhythmic, organic, and a joy to watch. When asked what he loves most about dancing, he responded, "The music. The music moves me and inspires me to become the dance."
